Charting Melania Trump’s First Lady Style

From model to billionaire's wife to First Lady of the United States

May 26th, 2017

Melania Trump has come under fire for wearing a Dolce & Gabbana jacket that retails for more than $68,000 AUD.

The First Lady was visiting Italy on the final leg of the president’s first international tour when she sported the colourful, floral jacket by the Italian designers. People were quick to point out that the coat cost more than some families make in an entire year, and that in the face of Trump’s healthcare bill (which is estimated to strip 23 million people of their medical insurance by 2026), perhaps FLOTUS should be seen to be spending a bit less on fashion.

Others noted that past First Ladies had supported American businesses over international ones, which is especially relevant given the current job crisis.

We should, however, point out that it’s unlikely Melania – or her husband – forked out for the jacket at all, and it was more likely a gift from Dolce & Gabbana, whose designer, Stefano, quickly shared to social media.
