Will Jon Snow Betray The Starks On ‘Game of Thrones’?

Now that he knows who he really is

WARNING: Game of Thrones Season 8, Episode 1, spoilers below.

In the premiere episode of Game of Thrones Season 8, Jon Snow found out who he really is – a Targaryen. Many fans of the series have speculated that Jon, knowing his true destiny, will leave the Starks.

Samwell Tarly’s admission in the premiere episode that Jon is really Aegon Targaryen, Sixth of His Name, Protector of the Realm, and the rightful king of the Seven Kingdoms, leaves his alliance with the Starks up in the air. Though a shaken Jon still insists that “Daenerys is our queen”, it’s clear that learning he’s the true king of the Seven Kingdoms, coupled with seeing a different side to her with the news that she slaughtered Sam’s family, has left him questioning their alliance, both romantic and military.

If Jon does decide to betray Daenerys and reclaim the throne for himself, it’s a fair bet that she won’t take it well. Already, she’s subtly threatened Sansa for failing to show the proper respect. “She doesn’t need to be my friend, but I am her queen,” Daenerys tells Jon earlier in the episode. “If she can’t respect me…”

One thing remains certain though, that there’s a power struggle preparing to erupt in Winterfell.
