On Monday night, Game of Thrones fans rejoiced as, finally, we got to see some good old fashioned incest between Jon Snow and his aunt Daenerys Targaryen.
And while we all tried to pretend the two lovers weren’t, in fact, related (impossible when Bran wouldn’t shut the hell up about it), actors Kit Harington and Emilia Clarke were busy trying to get past the fact that they’ve known each other for seven years – and, you know, are aunt and nephew on the show – to create some on-screen sexual chemistry.
Speaking in a behind-the-scenes clip, both Kit and Emilia have the same reaction, and yep, they’re pretty grossed out.
“I think it’s an inevitability from about halfway through the season,” Kit says of the sex scene.
“And for us, as actors, it’s just weird,” Emilia says. “The reality of what they are to each other, I don’t know how that’s gonna…”
[Insert vomit-face above].
“Usually you go into a movie and meet [your costar] for the first time and you develop that chemistry over that time,” Kit, who plays Jon Snow, told Entertainment Weekly.
“But if you’ve known somebody for seven years and shared this incredible journey in your own lives together… we’re both kind of freaking out about it.”
“I would be like, ‘What’s the sexual tension in this scene?’ and [Emilia’s] like, ‘Stop talking about sexual tension!’ It’s a unique experience to be in as an actor and you know the world is watching.”
Emilia agreed, “Yeah [I would say], ‘Would you just stop? Just give me some sexy eyes, don’t keep talking about sexual chemistry all the time,.”
“I love that when we get to the saucy stuff it’s a beautiful acceptance of a wordless … yep,” she said of the scene.
