An online petition asking HBO to remake the final season of Game of Thrones has reached over 350,000 signatures following ‘The Bells’ episode of season eight.

Signatories of the Change.org petition, entitled ‘Remake Game of Thrones Season 8 with competent writers‘, claim showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have steered too far from George R. R. Martin‘s original work, and have not given the characters the appropriate treatment they deserve.

“David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (i.e. the books) to fall back on,” the petition reads. “This series deserves a final season that makes sense. Subvert my expectations and make it happen, HBO!”

While the series was based on Martin’s works, Benioff and Weiss were left to create their own ending when the series surpassed the books. For quite some time, the showrunners have had to formulate the show’s remaining plot points based on Martin’s pointers rather than through fleshed-out novels.

“We deserve better,” one signatory wrote on the petition, “this season is truly disappointing on so many levels.”

Another wrote, “I’m signing because I devoted too much time to feel this disappointed.”
