Royal Meme Genius Gary Janetti Teases Prince George’s Soft Spot For Meghan Markle

"He does not like to kick somebody when they're down"

Gary Janetti is the brain behind every royal follower’s ultimate guilty pleasure after curating an Instagram account entirely dedicated to Prince George memes, drawing on hilarious photographs of the future heir bearing a number of one-is-not-unamused faces.

But even the six-year-old is worried about the Duchess of Sussex after an ITV interview of the former actress holding back tears graced the Internet earlier this week. So in a bid to avoid criticising the royal further, Prince George surprised fans by showing that he really does have a soft spot for his auntie after all.

The surprise Instagram post in question includes a screenshot of a divisive Daily Mail headline which reads: “Meghan Markle is ‘existing not living’ and Prince Harry ‘wants to leave the UK entirely’, claims ITV broadcaster behind documentary that shows royal couple ‘vulnerable and bruised’.”

To avoid sparking further controversy with the trademark snide remarks which saw his account garner over 841,000 followers in the first place, Janetti instead included a swipe to show a photograph of Meghan and Prince George at the polo back in July.

Unveiling a more sensitive side to the Prince George alter-ego he has created, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s eldest son is seen telling Meghan: “This is our Uber, I’m taking us on a spa day.”

Janetti recently opened up about the tonal shift in his royal parodies explaining that although the memes are famed for being pretty scathing, Prince George would never “kick somebody when they’re down”.

“The way I see it, in my world, she is family, they are family, and George rallies around family,” the author told People. “Now he sees that people and the press have piled on her, he doesn’t like it, and he’s rallying around the family. As of now, Meghan – he wants to take her under his wing. Now we’re seeing George might secretly like her. You know, he does not like to kick somebody when they’re down.”

One recent Instagram post shows Prince George looking baffled at a photograph of Harry and Meghan, as he asks himself: “Do I like this?”

While a second meme depicts the royal suggesting that he call his auntie to check in on her after she opened up about the pressures of motherhood under the media spotlight in the now-famous ITV documentary, ‘Harry & Meghan: An African Journey’.

“Infrequently, there are moments when he feels like, ‘Okay, even I like this,’’ or, Okay, this isn’t bad – good for her.’,” Janetti continues. “Recently, because the press in Britain can be so tricky, I think he now is like, ‘She’s family, and I want to support my family’. And it gives him an opportunity play the hero, in George’s eyes. So he’s still getting all the attention, the way he would see it.”

He then went on to suggest that there’s a lot more to come from Prince George in the coming weeks.

“It’s like a story turn, if you think of it as a long-running series,” Janetti said. “Stories can take turns. The turn, right now, is that he wants to be her champion. It’s not fun to pile on. George can afford to be generous, and where that goes, we will see.”
