An Empowering New TV Series Is Set To Hero An All-Star Cast Of Women In Traditional Male Genres

Beanie Feldstein, Jameela Jamil and more will star.

Women are about to see themselves on screen unlike any other way we have before. New television series Girls Can’t Shoot (and Other Lies) has officially been announced by Mark Gordon Pictures with its all-star cast a reason in itself to become our new obsession.

The unique series is based on a bestselling book, Feminists Don’t Wear Pink (and Other Lies)—a collection of essays compiled by Scarlett Curtis. In the screen adaptation, each episode will focus on a heroine in a narrative centred around traditional male genres.

Putting the direction of the tale directly into the hands of females, the series will be a celebration of women in all their entertaining, inspiring and empowering glory.

The cast of the series includes international treasure Beanie Feldstein as well as British actor and activist Jameela Jamil—and the list definitely doesn’t end there.

Here, everything you need to know about Girls Can’t Shoot (and Other Lies) including it’s plot, cast and possible release date.

Who is in the cast of Girls Can’t Shoot (and Other Lies)?

Beanie Feldstein and Jameela Jamil are two big names to join the cast alongside American actress Kat Dennings, singer and actor Michaela Jaé Rodriguez and comedian Lolly Adefope.

Scarlett Curtis herself will serve as executive producer across the series, and will write the pilot herself.

For context, Scarlett is the daughter of Richard Curtis who is responsible for gifting us with cinematic gems including Love ActuallyNotting Hill and About Time. So yes, you could say his daughter’s work is undoubtedly going to be just as incredible.

Irish actor Saorise Ronan will also join Curtis as an executive producer on the pilot episode.

What is the plot of Girls Can’t Shoot (and Other Lies)?

Much like the book, the series will star a number of actors (including the cast list above) who will tell their empowering story in the context of a traditional male genre, flipping the format entirely on its head and providing a platform to celebrate females in the process.

In a statement per Deadline, Curtis said: “Feminists Don’t Wear Pink (and Other Lies) gave a generation of women the chance to tell their stories and Girls Can’t Shoot (And Other Lies) has the exact same mission.”

She added: “It has been my lifelong dream to show that women’s stories can be both entertaining and empowering and I could not have found a more incredible group of women to bring their extraordinary visions to life.”

Kat Dennings and Lolly Adefope, who contributed their own essays to Feminists Don’t Wear Pink will adapt their own work to write and produce their episodes.

When will Girls Can’t Shoot (and Other Lies) be released?

It’s likely we’ll see Girls Can’t Shoot (and Other Lies) released sometime in 2022 or 2023. Given the cast has just been announced, it’s likely that production will be in the throes of commencing—per the format of past television productions, this process (and post-production) can take up to 18 months to complete.

That said, we’ve got our fingers crossed we’ll be seeing it sooner rather than later.
