A ‘Gossip Girl’ Reboot Has Just Been Confirmed!

It's ACTUALLY happening

Good morning, Upper East Siders, Gossip Girl here with news to make your Thursday: After years of speculation (and prayers), a Gossip Girl reboot has officially been confirmed by HBO Max.

E! News confirmed the new series overnight, revealing that the show will follow a new group of Manhattan’s elite rich teenagers and take place eight years after the original Gossip Girl’s finale. So far, 10-episodes have been confirmed as going ahead.

The publication says that the series will “address just how much social media — and the landscape of New York itself — has changed in the intervening years” since Gossip Girl first went offline.

While there’s no word yet on whether any of the original cast will be involved, such as Blake Lively, Penn Badgley, Chace Crawford, Leighton Meester and Ed Westwick, original series creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are on board as executive producers and Joshua Safran, an original executive producer, is both executive producing and writing the reboot.

Just last week, Crawford hinted at a reboot, saying that he would love to cameo, should a new series go ahead. “It would be very tough to get everybody on board I think because of their schedules, Penn, Leighton, Ed… They’re all doing really good TV shows. It would be hard I think [to get them altogether]. The reboot might come in the form of new characters. I would absolutely cameo. I’d have to!” he told Digital Spy.

Lively has previously said she’d be open to a reboot and creator Josh Schwartz (who’s involved with the new show) previously revealed that today’s Instagram age would open up a new world of plotline possibility.

No word yet on a release date, however, HBO Max doesn’t launch until autumn 2020, so we’ve got at least a year to rewatch reruns.
