Government Says No More Double Dipping When It Comes To Paid Parental Leave

The Prime Minister has come down hard on mothers getting payouts from their employer and the government’s maternity leave scheme

Are you pregnant? We have some bad news.

The Turnbull government is planning to shut down women who ‘double dip’ and receive paid parental leave from both their employer and the government. These changes could come into effect as early as January, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

If this new legislation is passed by Parliament, it would mean that in the new year women who are pregnant will receive only one payout: either from their employer, or from their government.

“This is a direct attack on paid parental leave, a direct attack on those mothers who are trying to combine their work and family responsibilities, and will leave thousands and thousands of new mothers in this country worse off,” opposition families spokeswoman Jenny Macklin told the Sydney Morning Herald.
