Music fans rejoice—the Grammys are back.
The 65th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony will return to Los Angeles this year, where some of the biggest names in music — including Taylor Swift, Beyonce and Harry Styles, to name a few — will walk the red carpet and hopefully win an award.
Here’s everything you need to know.
When are The Grammys?
In the states, the Grammy Awards will take place on Sunday, February 5 at 8:00pm EST.
But for those of us watching from Australia, that will be Monday, February 6 at 12:00pm AEDT.
How To Watch The 2023 Grammy Awards From Australia
If you’re planning on catching the Grammy Awards from Australia then you’re going to want to sign up to Paramount+, which will be streaming the awards from 12pm.
Last year, the Grammys also aired on Channel 7 but at this stage, no free-to-air channel has confirmed whether they’ll be showing the awards.
Who’s nominated this year?
This year’s star-studded list of Grammy nominees includes Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar, Adele, Harry Styles, Lizzo, Brandi Carlile, Taylor Swift and Bad Bunny.
But some stars are up for more awards than others.
Beyonce’s whopping nine nominations have broken her own record for the most nominations of all time. Kendrick Lamar comes a close second with eight nominations, while Adele isn’t far behind with seven.
This means that Adele and Beyonce will once again go head to head for the biggest Grammy awards, just as they did in 2017, when Adele took out the Best Album award for 25 over Beyonce’s Lemonade.
Who’s hosting?
It will be Trevor Noah’s third year of hosting the Grammy Awards, but his first year hosting in L.A.
The former Daily Show host first hosted the Grammys in 2021, when the awards show took place in a virtual format due to the pandemic. In 2022, the awards returned to an in-person format but moved to Las Vegas, due to a rise in L.A.’s Covid-19 cases.
Who’s presenting?
This year’s Grammy presenters include a number of famous faces, with Cardi B, Shania Twain, Olivia Rodrigo, Billy Crystal, James Corden, Viola Davis, Dwayne Johnson and U.S. First Lady Jill Biden set to take the stage.
Biden is not the only First Lady to have attended the Grammys, with Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton both winning Grammy Awards for the best spoken word albums.
Who’s performing?
The 65th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony will feature a number of superstar performances, with Harry Styles, Lizzo, Luke Combs, Bad Bunny, Mary J Blige and Sam Smith with Kim Petras on the lineup.
You can also expect tribute acts from Kacey Musgrave, who will pay homage to the late Loretta Lynn with ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter’, while Sheryl Crow, Mick Fleetwood and Bonnie Raittwill honour the late Fleetwood Mac member Christine McVie with a performance of ‘Songbird’.
Are There Any New Grammy Categories in 2023?
Yes, there will be five new Grammy Awards categories this year. These will include:
- Songwriter of the Year (Non-Classical)
- Best Alternative Music Performance
- Best Americana Performance
- Best Score Soundtrack for Video Games and Other Interactive Media
- Best Spoken Word Poetry Album
The five new categories will take the total number of Grammy award categories to 91.
