Our Favourite Moments From Gucci’s Resort 2020 Show

Everything to know

Following Gucci’s resort 2020 in Rome, Italy, we unpack our favourite moments from on — and off — the runway.

The collection was all about gender

As always, creative director Alessandro Michele was all about making a statement. For resort 2020, it was gender. Taking a stance on women’s reproductive rights, Michele put out pieces that literally and figuratively championed women. From uteruses on dresses to “My body, my choice” emblazoned on T-shirts, the fluid nature of the models gave the impression that the designer was sending a serious message.

“Nobody should have the right to decide about freedom of choice of any human being. No law should say to any person what to do or what not to do when it comes to very personal choice,” Michele told WWD of the collection.

Harry Styles dressed up for the occasion

Harry Styles doesn’t pass an opportunity to don his Gucci best, and the resort 2020 show was no exception. Wearing a cream-coloured white suit, tank top and carrying a raffia clutch, Styles looked all the part a Gucci model. Complete with pink oversized glasses and matching nail polish, it was a serious *look*.

Harry Styles and Stevie Nicks performed

Yes, you read that correctly. Guests at the Gucci show were treated to a Fleetwood Mac/Harry Styles concert, with the duo performing some of Fleetwood Mac’s best hits together — for the second time this year.

It was a nod to the past while still looking forward

As with all of Michele’s recent collections, there were throwback tones present throughout every new turn. This season it was all about the ‘70s. Speaking of the “blurred” time in history when women’s liberation movements coincided with abortion reform, Michele’s fringing, corduroy and shearling were all nods to the era’s best hits. More literally, he used the number 194 on a number items, a nod to the Italian law of abortion.

“It was a historical moment when women — finally — rejected all the constraints that were imposed in the previous centuries and they became free. That’s why I am paying homage to the Italian law regarding abortion, the law number 194. It’s unbelievable that around the world there are still people who believe that they can control a woman’s body, a woman’s choice. I will always stand behind the freedom of being, always,” he told WWD.
