Gucci Is Celebrating The Relaunch Of Its Sydney Store With A Collaboration By Australian Artists

Supporting the local arts industry

The past several months have been a challenging time for many—particularly, for the fashion industry—who has seen major shifts in the way it operates. In line with finding reinvigorated hope in both its team and customers, on October 28, Gucci is relaunching their Sydney boutique in the heart of the CBD, unveiling a new concept inspired by Alessandro Michele’s creative direction.

The flagship will also preview a first-look at Michele’s Epilogue collection, shown recently in Milan. The collection, or “experiment” as the designer labelled it, used those who designed the clothes for its runway in place of models. The designs include “pieces that should be worn always”, and not just in fashion for one season.

The creative director also used his own design motifs from the past 5 years as inspiration—including, the necktie blouse for his first collection, long cardigans, T-shirts tucked into jeans and bags Dionysus, Ophidia and Jackie 1961

In celebration of the reopening, Gucci has launched an exclusive limited-edition Sydney woven tote (pictured above), available in a run of just twenty numbered pieces. Each tote is bespoke, individualised with a personalised leather patch that represents the city in embossed metallic gold lettering. Designed to reflect famous Australian sunsets, the piece comes in vibrant and pastel pink colours, it’s shape finished with double top handles and an optional shoulder strap detail that can be detached on one side.

The Italian fashion house has also collaborated with local artist and curator of China Heights Gallery, Edward Woodley, on an art installation and limited edition prints based on some key looks from the collection.

The relaunched Gucci Sydney Flagship will open on October 28, 2020.
