Icon Gwendoline Christie Submitted Herself For An Emmy Nomination

Gwendoline for President

Game of Thrones final season had its highs and lows, but one highlight (and major tear-jerker) was the moment when Brienne of Tarth was finally knighted – an honour usually reserved for men – by none other than the man she loved, Jamie Lannister.

Earlier this week, Gwendoline Christie’s incredible acting was recognised when she was nominated for an Emmy award for the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. The GoT actress is in good company, up against her co-stars Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister), Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) and Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) in the category.

But as it turns out, despite Gwendoline being nominated, HBO didn’t actually submit her for an Emmy.

The Hollywood Reporter discovered that Gwendoline and her GoT colleagues Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy) and Carice van Houten (Melisandre), submitted themselves for consideration after HBO decided not to do so. The cost of submitting a self-nomination is $225, but the money was definitely worth it: all three were nominated for Emmys.

“HBO didn’t submit Gwendoline Christie for an Emmy so she submitted herself and got a nomination. Be your own biggest cheerleader,” journalist Julie DiCaro tweeted in a post that quickly went viral.

Gwendoline reacted to the news of her nomination in the best way, taking to Instagram to share the official confirmation email alongside the caption, “”I CANT BELIEVE IT!!!!!!????!?!!?!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU UNIVERSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #EmmyAwards #CANITTRULYBEREAL?????????? 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯♥️.”

Thanks for reminding us all to back ourselves, Gwendoline. We <3 you.
