A long-time fan of going au naturel, having previously hosted makeup free parties, the Goop founder's photo showed her stripped down and smiling while surrounded by nature.
"In nothing but my birthday suit today... thank you all so much for the birthday wishes and thank you to @goop ‘s insanely amazing brand new body butter for making me think I can still get my kit off. 💙 #goopgenes," she wrote in the caption.
Several of Paltrow's A-list friends shared their well-wishes in the comments.
"Happy Birthday @gwynethpaltrow , you got it !! Flaunt it ♥️🎂♥️🎂," Naomi Campbell wrote.
"🔥🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️❤️ Never looked better Birthday 👑 @gwynethpaltrow," said Rachel Zoe.
However, the best comment in response to Paltrow's photo arguably came from her 16-year-old daughter Apple Martin, who summed hers up in one word.
"MOM," she wrote.
Paltrow hasn't been one to shy away from talking about ageing, and recently announced that she is the face of Xeomin, a 'purified' form of Botox.
Sharing a makeup-free selfie to Instagram the Goop founder acknowledged that it takes more than hydrating and skincare to maintain her youthful glow.
"Dealing with ageing is a multi-layered experience. I take good care of my skin, hydrate and exercise, but sometimes a girl needs a little extra help," she wrote.
While her post was met with support, it was also criticised by her followers, most notably U.K.-based doctor and influencer, Dr. Joshua Wohlrich, who branded the post hypocritical in light of Goop's 'no toxins' approach to wellness and beauty.
