It turns out we definitely weren’t reading too much into their affectionate display at the Met because Mendes and Baldwin most definitely were an item, but a rather murky one.
For those of you who need a quick refresher: Shawn and Hailey made their first appearance at the Met Gala back in May, and looked very, very sweet together. Although there were much hugging and longing gazes into each other’s eyes, the pair denied they were an item.
But in a recent interview with Rolling Stone magazine, the singer opened up about many topics - including his sexual orientation and love of marijuana – and admitted that he did date Mrs. Bieber and it was a confusing experience.
Mendes told the magazine, “I don't even wanna put a title on it. I think it was more of a zone of limbo.”
Oh dear.
Although this ill-fated tryst was a bit murky, Mendes says he did wish the model congratulations upon hearing her engagement.
“I get it, you know. I texted Hailey, 'Congratulations,' and I really am happy for them. She's still one of the f*cking coolest people ever—she's not just a beautiful person visually, but she's one of the most beautiful hearts I've ever met.”
It looks like there are no hard feelings here.
