Calling all Handmaid’s Tale fans. Our leading lady Elisabeth Moss, or as most of us know her, June/Offred, is about to take on a brand-new role in the highly anticipated fourth season of the hit series.
Watch below: Elisabeth Moss starts a revolution in The Handmaid's Tale Season 3
In a show first, Moss, who has starred as the show’s main character and executive producer for the last three seasons, is about to add another title to her already lengthy list, being given the opportunity to direct the third episode of the upcoming season.
“I am thrilled to be given this opportunity by my partners Bruce and Warren and to have the support of all of our producers,” Moss said in a statement.
“It means so much to me and I do not take the responsibility lightly. Leading and executive producing this show the past 3 years has been such a joy and I’ve had the incredible gift of learning so much from the directors we’ve had on this show.
“My only hurdle may be working with the lead actress who I hear can be incredibly demanding. Wish me luck,” Moss added jokingly.
Handmaid’s showrunner and executive producer Bruce Miller echoed her sentiment, adding that he felt ‘lucky’ to be giving Moss the opportunity to take the lead.
“As an executive producer on the show, she has fostered a supportive environment that allows artists to do their best work,” he said.
“Elisabeth herself is now benefiting from this incredibly generous and ambitious atmosphere she helped create. She is an extraordinary talent, a badass, a tireless worker — I’m certain she will slay her directing debut.”
After last season’s cliffhanger ending, many fans of the show were left uncertain about the fate of their beloved protagonist, after she was pulled to safety by fellow handmaids Janine, Alma and Brianna.
While the news of Moss’ directional debut has many of us hanging on the edge of our seats, we’ll have to wait a little longer until later this year when the unsung heroes of Gilead return to our screens.
