If the last year has proved anything, it’s that we’re in need of a good laugh, and as always, Hannah Gadsby is here to provide that comedic relief thanks to the announcement of her newest Aussie tour: Body of Work.
The Emmy Award-winning comedian gained critical acclaim with her 2018 genre-bending show, Nanette, which was initially intended to be her farewell from comedy, but after having captured the attention of the comedy world (and beyond), Gadsby followed up her own tough act with her second Netflix special, Hannah Gadbsy: Douglas, in 2020.
On May 11, Gadsby announced her next special, Body of Work, which will kick off in Canberra in July 2021. Not much further detail has been announced, but the show will head to the stage across major cities, including Melbourne, Perth, Newcastle, Darwin, Hobart, Bendigo, Launceston, Bunbury, Albany, and Mandurah, before jetting off to New Zealand.
Don’t worry Sydney-siders if you’re worried about missing out, Gadsby herself has promised “something special” for you.
“Here’s a bit of Hooray… I have a brand new show… it is called BODY of WORK… and I’ll be visiting all sorts of places across AUSTRALIA and NEW ZEALAND,” Gadsby wrote on social media. “I’m not traditionally an excitable person but… yep… I’m back on a real live stage. It’s nice.”
Pre-sale tickets will be available from Wednesday, May 12, with general public tickets going on sale from Friday, May 14 at 9am.
The news comes just a week after Gadsby announced she had gotten married to producer Jenney Shamash, who she described as “very funny” and “really talented at reciting facts.”
“We got married in January and we are very chuffed about it. For the record: this is me gushing. I am full of very positive feelings. This is a nice story. My heart felt thanks to everybody who voted for marriage equality,” Gadsby wrote alongside a sweet image of the pair eating ice cream.
