Harry Potter And The Cursed Child Is Coming To Australia

Muggles be warned!

It’s time to polish up your Nimbus 2000 and dust off your velvet cloak because the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child production is heading Down Under in 2019.

Following sold-out seasons in London and New York, the highly anticipated stage production will be debuting exclusively at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre next year.

Set almost two decades after the wizards graduated from Hogwarts, the spellbinding eighth instalment in Rowling’s Harry Potter saga follows Harry as a married husband of three.

You can’t ever assume a new play is going to have a further life, but we knew that if Harry Potter and the Cursed Child did have a life beyond London and Broadway, that the next stop would be (Australia),” said producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender in a press release.

Following the plays smash-hit success on Broadway and the West End, competition for tickets is likely to be stiff. With the London premiere selling out within hours and highly coveted tickets re-surfacing on the black market for as much as $10,400.

While the anticipation for tickets may be about as harrowing as having your name drawn out of the Goblet of Fire, for now, we can only keep a watchful eye on the production’s website for more details to emerge.

In the meantime you can find us on platform 9 and ¾, as we prepare to board the red and gold coated steam train straight to Melbourne’s Flinders Station.
