Millions of obsessed Serial listeners—us included—poured over the case of Adnan Syed, who is serving a life sentence for the murder of his former girlfriend, Hae Min Lee.

Now, Syed’s case will be re-examined in a highly-anticipated true-crime documentary series from HBO and Sky.

The four-part series, titled The Case Against Adnan Syed, will look at the circumstances surrounding Syed’s arrest in 1991, his trial, and the developments after Serial aired (he has been granted a retrial).

The Case Against Adnan Syed is directed by Amy Berg, who earned an Oscar nomination for Deliver Us from Evil, her documentary about sex abuse cases in the Roman Catholic Church.

According to its synopsis, the series will offer a cinematic look at the life and 1999 murder of Hae Min Lee and conviction of Adnan Syed, from the genesis of their high school relationship, to the original police investigation and trial, through to the current day, when Syed faces a new trial after serving 18 years in jail,” Slate reports.

The synopsis continues: “With exclusive access to Adnan Syed, his family and his lawyers, director Amy Berg has been closely following their efforts to obtain justice, with the outcome still to be determined—and possibly shaped by the investigation pursued within the series itself”.

We are yet to find out exactly when the series will go to air, but one thing is for sure—we’ll be watching.
