Helena Bonham Carter Drunkenly Asked Prince William To Be Her Child’s Godfather

This is very Princess Margaret of her

With the release of The Crowns third season, and the addition of Olivia Colman and Helena Bonham Carter as Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret respectively, has come various stories of the British actresses encounters with the real royal family. From Colman revealing she accidentally asked Prince William if he watches the show (his answer was a firm negative), to Bonham Carter saying she went as far as to speak to a medium to get Princess Margaret’s approval to play her in the hit Netflix drama, the stories are never-ending.

But perhaps the best yet? Bonham Carter once asked Prince William to be her daughter’s godfather when she was a bit drunk.

“I wasn’t that drunk, but enough drunk for me not to drink anymore,” she explained to Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live. “He wasn’t totally sober himself ― not in a bad way, it was just very jolly.”

She continued: “Thing is, I’d spent all my friends as godparents on my first child, so Billy had 11 godparents. And so I thought I could make up for Nell ― you know, who suddenly came along and we didn’t have any left. I thought, ‘Well, if I give her Prince William that would cover,’ you know?”

But it seems the prince wasn’t ready for the responsibility. “He just said, ‘You don’t want me to be godfather to your child.’ And I left and obviously it didn’t work out. Funny enough,” she said.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph recently, Bonham Carter revealed she’s adopted Princess Margaret’s no-nonsense nature since portraying her in the show. ‘Princess Margaret has seeped into me. I’ve just done a huge press tour. I was much firmer on boundaries and less tolerant of people’s behaviour. I thought: “Margaret”.

‘I’ve always been so amenable to people. But now I just say: “No that’s enough,” to people who are wanting to take photos all the time… Very firm. Very PM,’ she said.
