Ever made an utterly genius suggestion in a meeting or to a co-worker which falls on deaf ears? And then, after a male colleague repeats it confidently, everyone suddenly showers him with praise?
Enter a new term we’re immediately adding to our vocabulary: ‘hepeated’.
As the Independent reports, astronomer and professor Nicole Gugliucci introduced the term on Twitter back in September.
“My friends coined a word: hepeated. For when a woman suggests an idea and it's ignored, but then a guy says same thing and everyone loves it,” she wrote.
Gugliucci tweeted the example: “Usage: "Ugh, I got hepeated in that meeting again." Or, "He totally hepeated me!"”
As you can imagine, the new term—on par with the 'mansplaining'–was resonated with many women on Twitter.
Gugliucci added: "If anyone tries mansplaining why that's "not a big deal," you will be publicly shamed. Just warning you. Anyway, enjoy your new word!"
