‘Kim Burrell Will Not Be Appearing on My Show’

After fans expressed outrage that homophobic Gospel singer Kim Burrell was reportedly booked to appear on the Ellen Degeneres show, the talk show host has taken to Twitter to clear up the rumours.

“For those asking, Kim Burrell will not be appearing on my show,” she confirmed.

Ellen was being urged to ban an the controversial gospel singer who was caught on film saying gays and lesbians are “perverts”.

Just two days before the new year, gospel singer Kim Burrell told a church congregation: “You play with the homosexual spirit in God’s house and you’ll die from it in 2017.”

The rant, which was broadcast on Facebook Live also called gays “serpents”.

“You as a man, you open your mouth and take a man’s penis in your face, you are perverted,” she said. “You are a woman and will shake your face in another woman’s breast, you are perverted.”

The singer is due to appear on Ellen’s show this week with Pharrell, to sing the lead track from the film Hidden Figures.

Ellen’s fans have taken to social media to demand she cancel Burrell’s appearance, and her costars in the film have equally condemned her hatred..

Singer Janelle Monae, who also appears in the film, has condemned her colleague’s rant, saying “I unequivocally repudiate ANY AND ALL hateful comments against the LGBTQ community.” She added, “Today and tomorrow and the next day I will continue to stand with other like minded people who condemn any and all statements and actions that would seek to deny the basic humanity of our fellow brothers and sisters. We cannot sit Idly by nor will we speak silently when we are confronted with such violence against members of our community.”

Burrell took to Facebook to make an apology – of sorts – saying, “To every person who is dealing with a homosexual spirit I love you because God loves you, but God hates the sin in you and me.”

Ellen is yet to comment on the scandal, and at time of writing Burrell was still booked to appear on the show.
