Lake Como, Italy
It’s George and Amal Clooney’s romantic getaway of choice, but Italy’s Lake Como has far more to offer than the odd celebrity sighting. Think stunning lakeside scenery flanked by snow-capped alps, impossibly luxurious hotels and champagne-soaked cruises by sunset. Spend your days traipsing the picture-perfect villages that line the lake’s shore, visit ancient villas (stunning Villa Del Balbianello, where Casino Royale was filmed, is a must) and end your days with an Aperol spritz in the fading sun. For more adventurous honeymooners, take the Como-Brunate funicular up 1600-feet above the lake, then hike to Faro Voltiano, a lighthouse with spectacular views across the water to the Swiss Alps.
When: Summer is peak tourist season in Lake Como, so time your stay for early autumn when the crowds have died down but it’s still warm enough for a dip.
Where: Grand Hotel Tremezzo is the last word in luxury, with a sparkling pool built right on the lake and exquisitely detailed rooms that just beg for an Instagram post (or 10).
Forget New York being the city that never sleeps, Tokyo is the bustling metropolis where bars are open 24 hours, stores never close and you can sing Karaoke 'til morning. Tokyo is both a city defined by modern technology and fashion while still steeped in culture. Begin your honeymoon adventure by rowing a boat down the Chidorigafuchi moat surrounded by iconic cherry blossoms, then head to the Kurand Saké Market to taste over 100 different types of sake. For the honeymooners who enjoy a bit of adventure, go to the top of the Sky Tree Tower or walk up the famous Mount Fuji.
When: The Spring (March-May) or Summer (June – August)
Where: Hilton Tokyo Odaiba, Four Seasons Hotel Marunouchi, The Peninsula Tokyo or a traditional ryokan with your own private onsen (hot spring bath).
