Megan shared a note to her Instagram Stories that began, "Jake is easily the biggest-hearted man I've ever met, and I'd be lying if I said this break up has been anything but destroying."
"Our first kiss and first date was on a reality TV show - something I'll always treasure as a beautiful experience and as beautiful memories."
"The rest, in private, far exceeded the fun/romance of the show as we grew to love and respect each other, and also tease the s**t out of each other as best friends."
"We'll be keeping everything else to ourselves - sending love to everyone who has supported us," she finished.
Later that day, Jake shared a tribute of his own, saying he and Megan are taking a break from their relationship and that "words will never express the heartbreak" he's feeling right now.
In his post, Jake implied that it was Megan who called time on their relationship, saying: "I wish with all of my heart that this wasn’t happening."
The pair has been open about having issues over the past few months with both Jake and Megan writing lengthy posts. Earlier this month, Jake said: "Relationships aren’t always perfect, not always the fairytale that you put out to the world."
"It takes work sometimes, to learn about each other & face those tough relationship obstacles together. That’s what is real. In being honest, this is something that we have faced recently, not certain on how we would come out the other end."
Megan shared a post of her own, saying: "If I can be so bold - we’ve had a rough couple of months. We weren’t sure if we’d even last."
Rumours started surfacing that the two were taking a break after it was reported that a huge fight at Splendour in the Grass prompted Megan to move back to Sydney.
“They've been having problems for the past two months,” a source told The Daily Mail. “Megan's really upset.”
It looks like Megan has now decided the pair would be better as friends, but clearly Jake's still willing to fight for the relationship.
