Jennifer Lawrence Shares That She Plans To Protect Her Baby’s Privacy “For The Rest Of Their Life”

"I don't want anyone to feel welcome into their existence."

If there’s one downfall to holding celebrity status, it’s bound to be the sheer absence of privacy. And for a notoriously private Jennifer Lawrence, that is the precise reason why she is set on protecting her unborn child from the prying eyes of the world.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Lawrence opened up about why she has no plans on revealing her baby to the world nor in any press interviews once they’re born or, well, ever.

Of course, her ode to keeping her life under lock and key should come as no surprise. Since confirming her first pregnancy with husband Cooke Maroney back in September—and showing off her baby bump in a green dress only yesterday—it’s clear that she has no plans in sharing intimate details about her life at all.

“If I was at a dinner party, and somebody was like, ‘Oh, my God, you’re expecting a baby,’ I wouldn’t be like, ‘God, I can’t talk about that. Get away from me, you psycho!’ But every instinct in my body wants to protect their privacy for the rest of their lives, as much as I can,” the Don’t Look Up star told the publication.

“I don’t want anyone to feel welcome into their existence. And I feel like that just starts with not including them in this part of my work.”

And while she feels “grateful and excited” to begin her life as a mother, she also revealed that she was feeling “nervous” about opening up to the world, since she’s always refrained from discussing her personal life publicly.

“I’m so nervous,” she said. “I haven’t spoken to the world in forever. And to come back now, when I have all of these new accessories added to my life that I obviously want to protect… I’m nervous for you. I’m nervous for me. I’m nervous for the readers!”

While the 31-year-old stopped discussing her experience with pregnancy or her expectations of what motherhood will be like, she did share what she loves the most about her marriage to Maroney, an art gallerist who she tied the knot with in an opulent Rhode Island ceremony in October 2019.

“I really enjoy going to the grocery store with him,” she revealed, adding, “I don’t know why but it fills me with a lot of joy”.

She continued, “I think maybe because it’s almost a metaphor for marriage. ‘Okay, we’ve got this list. These are the things we need. Let’s work together and get this done.'”

“And I always get one of the cooking magazines, like 15 Minute Healthy Meals, and he always gives me a look like, ‘You’re not going to use that. When are you going to make that?’ And I say, ‘Yes, I am. Tuesday!’ And he’s always right, and I never do.”

The couple are yet to—and will likely never—publicly announce their baby’s due date, but given their stance on respecting their unborn child’s rights, their new addition is already one of the luckiest out there.
