Jesinta and Lance “Buddy” Franklin have cemented their status as Australia’s golden couple, opening up about their relationship in an exclusive interview and cover, their first shoot together, for marie claire magazine.
But the couple revealed that Buddy, 30, was less than forthcoming about his feelings for the gorgeous former Miss Universe when they first began seeing each other in 2012.
“I’m not even sure you’d call it dating,” Jesinta, 26, remembers of those early days. “It was spending lots of time together but it wasn’t romantic then, which was frustrating at times. I thought he was just after a bit of fun.”
But she needn’t have worried. Turns out, her AFL star boyfriend was smitten – he was just scared to ruin their growing connection by speaking up. “I knew as soon as I met her that I wanted to marry her,” Buddy now admits (the pair wed in November 2016). “As clichéd as that sounds, it was love at first sight for me.”
Jesinta agrees: “There has never been a single moment that I’ve ever doubted our relationship.”
The fairytale pair have together become Australia’s most in-demand couple with perhaps the ultimate testament of their dual power status the fact that French luxury brand Parfums Christian Dior has chosen to collaborate with them both – Jesinta for Miss Dior; Buddy for the just-launched Sauvage Eau De Parfum – for its Valentine’s Day campaign.
Pick up the March issue of marie claire on Thursday to see Jesinta and Buddy’s first shoot together and read more about their love story.
