Jessica Alba Is Reviving This Old School Nail Trend

It's coming back

As nail salons across the globe reopen thanks to a lessening in COVID-19 restrictions, many of us are straight back to our old acrylic and gel mani habits.

Not knowing when or if a ‘second wave’ of the pandemic will hit, you’re forgiven for sticking to a classic beige or pinky-nude nail polish to see you through in the event of a step backwards (after all, they’re the most inconspicuous when it comes to regrowth).

But one celebrity who’s gone for the ultimate classic is Jessica Alba, who opted for an unmistakable white-tipped and sheer pale pink French manicure.

Sharing her new nails on Instagram Stories, Alba credited @nailsbydeim for the handiwork, which saw her nails filed into a chic oval shape, at moderate length, which accentuated the traced tip design.

Many would argue that the French manicure has been ‘out’ for years, but since late 2019, the ‘70s style (brought to peak popularity by Barbara Streisand, and again in the ‘00s by JLo, Paris Hilton and more) has been making a comeback.

The traditional version has been spotted on celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Gigi Hadid and Beyoncé, while the likes of Kylie Jenner have given it a revamp, with a matte beige base and rainbow tips.

So whether you’re a fan of the classic or the modern re-take, one thing’s for sure, the French mani is back.
