Back in May, Jimmy Kimmel broke down in tears while revealing the health struggles his newborn son has faced while addressing the health care debate in America.

The late-night host recounted the birth of his second child, Billy, saying that he was born with a serious defect which required immediate open-heart surgery followed by years of monitoring and future medical procedures.

“If your baby is going to die, and it doesn’t have to, it shouldn’t matter how much money you make,” he said in the viral speech, which Obama applauded.

Now, 7-month-old Billy has made his TV debut.

On Monday night, Jimmy returned to his show after taking a week off to spend time with his family following Billy’s second heart surgery. He surprised the audience with the adorable little one during the opening monologue, fighting back tears as he gave fans a health update.

“I was out last week because this guy had heart surgery, but look – he’s fine, everybody!” he told the audience.

“He may have pooped, but he’s fine,” Jimmy continued, before saying: “Daddy cries on TV, but Billy doesn’t. It’s unbelievable.”

Jimmy and his wife, Molly McNearney, welcomed Billy in April. A month later they revealed that he was born with a congenital heart defect. Billy has one more heart surgery to go.

Sending love to the Kimmel family!
