Joe Biden Breaks Records With The Most Votes For A Presidential Candidate In U.S. History

The record was previously held by Barack Obama

While neither Joe Biden nor Donald Trump have officially won the 2020 U.S. Presidential Election just yet, Democratic candidate Joe Biden has already broken a significant record.

According to People, Biden has apparently won more votes than any other presidential candidate in U.S. history. These results mean that his voting numbers have even beaten the previous record set by former President Barack Obama.

As of November 4, Biden has received over 70 million votes, while Obama’s past record was 66,862,039 back in 2008. President Donald Trump is currently trailing behind at approximately 67 million.

In addition, CNBC has also reported that the United States just broke another record for the highest voter turnout in over a century—120 years, to be exact—with at least 159.8 million votes projected.

However, Biden earning the most votes in history still doesn’t guarantee him the Presidential win. As was the case for Hillary Clinton back in 2016, after she won the popular vote but her victory wasn’t secured without the 270 Electoral College votes.

Currently, Biden still needs to earn 270 electoral college votes to win—leaving this election up to specific swing states like Pennsylvania, which went to Trump in 2016.

Aside from the presidential race, which the Associated Press is currently claiming too close to call, there were so many victories worth celebrating.

First, we saw Sarah McBride become the first trans state senator in the U.S., Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and every other member of “the Squad” won re-election, and a number of women made history in the country.

And while many have claimed that Biden’s chances of winning are strong, we can only wait and see as the results stream in.
