Chrissy Teigen knows what it’s like to be mum-shamed, and the Queen of Twitter always handles it expertly. The mum-of-two is not alone in the club of celebrity mothers subjected to mommy-shamers of the Internet, who are often criticised of the decisions they make for their children. Though A-list fathers are usually overlooked when it comes to their parenting decisions, a double-standard John Legend is eager to point out.
“People were shaming Chrissy for leaving the house and didn’t say anything bad to me,” Legend told Romper, recalling an incident from 2016 in which Teigen was slammed for leaving her newborn child to go on a date night with Legend. No one said anything about Legend leaving his newborn son at home.
“Look, we’re both parents and we’re both going out. If you think that’s not appropriate — and first of all, you shouldn’t think that’s not appropriate — if you’re going to blame somebody, blame both of us, not just the mother.”

Legend adds he feels this is not only the way he parents, but the way in which he and Teigen do everything. I feel like we tag-team or we split, especially when [our son] Miles was first born and when it came to breast-feeding and having that be a regular part of the ritual with him,” Legend also told Romper. “Chrissy had to tend to him more than I could, so I took it upon myself to really make sure Luna was good. So we kind of split off that way.”
He continued, “We just figure out who needs what and try to do what we can and never look at it as, ‘This is Chrissy’s job and this is my job.’ This is our job, together. We’re both parents and we make it work.”
This isn’t the first time Legend has praised Teigen for her mothering skills. “I have a career in the music business, but we all know who the star of the family is. She’s the heart and soul of the family too,” Legend said about Teigen at Glamour‘s 2018 Women of the Year Awards. “I am very much in love with this woman. I mean, obviously, I guess. She is my wife. And she is the mother of our daughter Luna and our son Miles.”
