Julia Garner Has Been Offered The Lead Role In The Upcoming Madonna Biopic

The star beat out Madonna’s own daughter for the role.

Julia Garner’s wish on a lucky star must have come true because the 28-year-old actor has just been offered the lead role in Madonna’s upcoming biopic.

As revealed by Variety, the Inventing Anna and Ozark alumni has been hand picked to play Madonna by the pop sensation herself, beating out the likes of Florence Pugh, Euphoria’s Alexa Demie, Sky Ferreira and even Madonna’s own daughter, Lourdes “Lola” Leon.

While nothing has officially been confirmed by either camp, a source revealed to the publication that Garner is certainly the frontrunner, with her team “expected to accept the offer”.

The news comes after details about the “gruelling” audition process were revealed. As it seems, playing the legendary musician is no easy feat.

According to sources, the “bootcamp” entailed “11-hour-a-day — choreography sessions with Madonna’s choreographer, choreography sessions with Madonna, herself…readings with Madonna, as well as singing auditions with the superstar”.

And while we’ve never seen Garner sing or dance in her previous roles, if it was enough to impress Madonna herself we’re sure it will impress us.

Garner is, afterall, a master of disguise. Whether it’s her pseudo-German-slash-Russian accent in Inventing Anna, her Missouri twang in Ozark or her stellar Britney Spears and Gwen Stefani impersonations, Garner possesses the unique ability to shift herself into any role or circumstance.

The unnamed project was revealed by Madonna herself back in 2020. Directed and co-written by the 63-year-old star, the project is reported to chronicle the “untold true story” of “one of the world’s most influential icons”.

As per Universal, the film will follow her “groundbreaking impact as a musician, actress, director, author and entrepreneur who informs every aspect of global culture, transforming our understanding of art, sexuality, feminism and the role of women in entertainment.”

“I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer – a human being, trying to make her way in this world,” Madonna said.

“The focus of this film will always be music. Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive. There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me. It’s essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision.”

No further details regarding the film’s title or release date has been revealed, but considering Garner may soon sign the deal, here’s hoping the project will start production soon.

In the meantime, we’ll be sitting with baited breath to meet our next Material Girl.
