Julia Louis-Dreyfus Reveals She Has Breast Cancer

The actress makes an emotional statement

Julia Louis-Dreyfus has been diagnosed with breast cancer, revealing the news in an emotional post shared on social media today.

“1 in 8 women get breast cancer. Today, I’m the one,” the actress wrote. “The good news is that I have the most glorious group of supportive and caring friends, and fantastic insurance through my union.”

The selfless actress also took the moment to bring attention to the need for universal health care in the United States.

“The bad news is that not all women are so lucky, so let’s fight all cancers and make universal health care a reality,” she continued.

She did not give any further details of her health status. 

The actress found out about her breast cancer diagnosis one day after her consecutive win at the 2017 Emmy Awards for her leading role on Veep

“Our love and support go out to Julia and her family at this time,” HBO said in the statement. “We have every confidence she will get through this with her usual tenacity and undaunted spirit, and look forward to her return to health and to HBO for the final season of Veep.”

The actress’ rep told US Weekly: “Julia is incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support and well wishes.”

Stars including Anna Kendrick and Hillary Clinton were quick to show their support of Louis-Dreyfus on social media, with her Veep co-star Tony Hale tweeting, “we love this woman.”
