“Throughout my political career, I sought to be an advocate for women and girls, particularly as Minister for Foreign Affairs and as Minister for Women’s Issue,” Bishop said in a statement.
“The stories from researchers and patients involved in the OCRF are deeply moving, and I am honoured to be Ambassador for this important campaign that seeks to find an early detection test and cure for ovarian cancer.”
Sadly, ovarian cancer is still Australia’s most deadly female cancer — killing three women every day. The five-year survival rate of 45 percent has had little movement, and the impact this insidious disease is having on Australian families is devastating.
When it comes to ovarian cancer research, the problem is underfunding. More awareness of this lethal disease is crucial, and hopefully, funding can assist in finding an early detection test.
Celebrity ambassadors Anna Heinrich and Jessica McNamee will also join Julie Bishop in promoting this year’s White Shirt campaign and helping to raise funds for this very important cause.
For every White Shirt sold, Witchery will donate 100% of the gross proceeds to the OCRF. The collection will be available to shop online and in Witchery stores in Australia and New Zealand from April 11 to May 8, 2019.
