Kate Middleton's Blue Commonwealth Day Outfit Included A Special Nod To Ukraine

When it comes to royal fashion, there's often more to it than meets the eye.
Armed with professional stylists and a wardrobe of high fashion (not to mention designers scrambling for an opportunity to custom design something for them), no outfit is picked without a deliberate intention.
There's royal tour wardrobes filled with local designers, there's family heirlooms accessorised with new designs, and today, there was the donning of one particularly bright colour representative of more than 50 countries.
Indeed, on Monday, March 14, Kate Middleton stepped out at London's Westminster Abbey where she attended the annual Commonwealth Day service alongside several other prominent royal family members—including her husband, Prince William.
For the occasion, Kate stood out in a bright blue Catherine Walker coat and matching pillbox hat. While the choice in colour was undoubtedly a nod to the Commonwealth flag, eagle eyed watchers also noted a her special necklace and earrings set which appeared to be a show of support to the Ukraine—Kate wore the very same set when she met Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his wife, Olena Zelensky at Buckingham Palace in October 2020.

And in case you were wondering why this particular jewellery set looks very familiar, it actually matches her engagement ring formerly owned by Princess Diana.
It's believed the late princess owned the full set, which Kate has now presumably inherited.
Last week, Duchess Catherine and Prince William showed their outward support for Ukraine by visiting the Ukrainian Cultural Centre in London. Again, Kate opted for a bright blue jersey, the colour of Ukraine's flag. The royal couple also brought along homemade brownies and granola bars for the volunteers there.

Following Monday's Commonwealth Day Service, Kate and William issued a joint statement to Twitter, writing: "Fantastic to come together to celebrate #CommonwealthDay and modern, vibrant and diverse communities across the globe at Westminster Abbey today."
The service was also attended by Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla, though in a very rare move, Queen Elizabeth II opted out of this year's event due to safety and health reasons. She is currently residing in Windsor after recovering from COVID-19 in February.
Reunited or not, there's no doubt Commonwealth Day provides a spectacular royal-watching opportunity—and Kate certainly saw to that.
