In the wake of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's tell-all with Oprah, many have been speculating how the bombshell allegations have made the rest of the royal family feel, especially the Duke of Sussex's brother, Prince William, and his wife, Kate Middleton. On March 10, two days after the interview, Buckingham Palace released a statement that said they were "saddened" by the treatment Meghan and Harry said they received while senior members of the family, but that the issues would be dealt with "privately as a family."
But now, a source has come forward to share how the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge personally feel about the interview, which included Meghan revealing to Oprah that Kate had made her cry just weeks prior to her royal wedding in 2018.
“William and Kate were in total shock after hearing what Meghan and Harry said,” a source told Us Weekly. “What shocked them the most was Meghan’s suicidal thoughts and their quotes on a royal family member mentioning Archie’s skin colour. William and Kate knew about some of their troubles with palace aides, but nothing to this extent.”
The source added that the couple "feel horrible" for Harry and Meghan, but reportedly "still wish" they "had not tried to take down the royal family” on television. “William and Kate feel that these conversations could have been made in private,” the source added.
The day prior royal reporter Katie Nicholl gave an update on how Kate and William were feeling post-interview, revealing that Will was "pretty distraught" by the events, while Kate felt "awful".
"William is devastated by this interview," Katie told Entertainment Tonight, and added, "Don't forget that the Duchess of Cambridge is being dragged into this whole saga and William will hate that and of course, relationship between father and son is of course at an all-time low. I think that the idea that Kate’s being dragged into this will be upsetting for Kate who behind the scenes has tried really hard to be a peacemaker between William and Harry. She has been deeply saddened by the brothers' falling out. Don’t forget she was incredibly close to Harry herself."
