Every Must-See Moment From Kate Spade’s Autumn/Winter ’19/’20 Show

We want it all and we want it now

Yesterday in New York, Nicola Glass presented her autumn/winter ’19/’20 Collection for Kate Spade and our market editor was there to watch it unfold. Glass’s sophomore collection as creative director for the brand was a decadent display of elegance, sophisticated design and refined feminine tailoring.

The famous Cipriani on Wall Street was transformed into a pastel pink paradise for the occasion. Rows of translucent chairs adorned with fluffy covers lined the restaurant, and there sat a star studded front row; Maggie Gyllenhaal, Sadie Sink, Julia Garner, all among the best-dressed sitting in row A. As the lights dimmed and the music erupted, guest were treated to a feast of bold colours and soft, fluid silhouettes.

Silk midi dresses in lilac and cherry wood strutted toward us to a playful soundtrack of Deee-Lite’s What Is Love. Next followed an evergreen corduroy pantsuit reminiscent of the 70’s, paired effortlessly with a turban of the same hue. Glittery lurex and panelled denim pieces were scattered throughout, and accessories reigned supreme. Models wore lace up mod boots and peeptoe platforms, while most carried not one, but two handbags. Although print was still present in the form of ditsy florals and leopard, strong block colours were a welcomed breath of fresh air.

Glass, while paying homage and respecting the heritage and core DNA of the brand, set the ground work for what is to come for Kate Spade. The collection was an evolution of the new house codes she set for spring and we eagerly await her next.
