Keira Knightley is an actress, a mother and a champion of women’s rights, raising her daughter with her feminist beliefs.

This week, Knightley revealed she’s banned her daughter Edie, three, from watching Cinderella – for the best possible reason.

Talking to Ellen DeGeneres, she explained why Edie isn’t allowed to watch the Disney classic. “Because, you know, [Cinderella] waited around for a rich guy to rescue her. Don’t. Rescue yourself, obviously,” she said, to a round of applause from the audience.

Rescue yourself, girl.

Also on the banned list is The Little Mermaid. “And this is the one that I’m quite annoyed about because I really like the film,” Knightley admitted. “I mean the songs are great, but do not give your voice up for a man! Hello?”

Edie is however allowed to watch Frozen, Moana and Finding Dory, which all feature powerful girl/fish role models.

In the hilarious interview, Knightley said she encourages her daughter to embrace her passions. “She did want to be a dentist, which I was super happy about because that’s a stable career,” she said. “Now she wants to be a lion, which I think is slightly more problematic, but she roars really well.”

Follow your dreams Edie, follow your dreams.
