Why Are We Condemning Khloe Kardashian For Staying But Celebrating Beyoncé?

Both were cheated on, but the public reactions couldn't be more different

We all know the story: Days before Khloe Kardashian’s due date, videos of her 27-year-old boyfriend Tristan Thompson were leaked showing the NBA player kissing two women in a club.

The clips were quickly followed up with further footage of Thompson with a different woman and within 24 hours, it was rumoured he had cheated on Kardashian at least three times over the course of her pregnancy.

Despite the entire Kardashian clan unfollowing Thompson on Instagram, after giving birth on April 12th the new mum revealed her daughter’s name, True Thompson, in a post which was worded to heavily hint at her choice to stay with her cheating partner.

Fans were quick to criticise Kardashian for giving her daughter Thompson’s last name and for seemingly forgiving him: “Have some respect for yourself,” one person wrote.

“Did you really forget everything Tristan has done to you? You’ve lost me as a fan,” another commented. The list goes on.

Now, weeks after the cheating scandal broke, Kardashian and Thompson have been seen together in public for the first time, seemingly confirming their choice to stay together.

While the footage of Thompson is certainly questionable, we really have no idea what’s going on behind closed doors. The videos could’ve been taken when Kardashian and Thompson were on a break, or at a completely different time to what the media is reporting – it’s the Kardashians we’re talking about, there’s very little chance this is the first they’ve seen of it

And if none of the above is true, and Kardashian has chosen to forgive Thompson in an attempt to keep her family, there’s nothing wrong with that, either.

Why were we all so quick to forgive Jay Z for cheating on Beyoncé when they had been married for 10 years and already shared a daughter?

Sure, there was no video footage (unless you count that elevator incident), but there’s no shortage of heartbroken lyrics, either: ‘Looking at my watch, he shoulda been home/Today I regret the night I put that ring on,’ and, ‘Here lies the body of the love of my life whose heart I broke/Here lies the mother of my children both living and dead.’

During her already iconic Coachella performance, the very woman who taught us to never let a man walk all over us, who had just sung ‘to the left, to the left’ and ‘middle fingers up, tell ‘em boy bye,’ brought out her husband to sing a love song beside her.

The crowd went wild. There were no shouts of Beyoncé being weak for forgiving her husband and for trying to make their marriage work. She lost no fans when she revealed an entire album dissecting his cheating, holding a baseball bat and calling out Becky with the good hair, only to announce they were pregnant with twins less than a year later.

As women, we should support any woman’s decision, whether we feel like we’d do the same or not. Because unless you’ve walked in someone else’s shoes, who are you to judge?

In the words of Beyoncé, “Nothing’s perfect but it’s worth it.”
