Teasing hardcore fans of the thriller, the newly-released trailer opens with a clown-clad Villanelle (Jodie Comer) terrorising children at a birthday party.

“I just had a really bad break-up,” she says in her unnerving drawl. “When I think about my ex I realise, I am so much happier now she’s dead.”

But all is not what is seems, as Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh, to you and I) is alive – hoorah!

Thankfully, the Russian villain – who first stomped onto screens in frothy Molly Goddard tulle – hasn’t lost her way in the wardrobe department with a series of killer looks sure to grace our Instagram feed in no time.

From frolicking in a floral gown on a lavish balcony to navigating the fine art of chic gardening attire, Villanelle looks set to steer our shopping habits once more.

In another draw, the forthcoming series will introduce fans to seven new cast members – all of whom boast pretty impressive resumes.

Pedja Bjelac of Harry Potter fame will be joined by Game of Thrones alum Gemma Whelan, who took on the role of Yara Greyjoy, in the cult show.

Raj Bajaj (you may shamelessly recognise him from A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding), will also take to the small screen alongside Camille Cottin (Call My Agent), Steve Pemberton (Inside No. 9), Evgenia Dodina (One Week and a Day) and Turlough Convery (Ready Player One).

In keeping with tradition, the upcoming season also boasts a new head writer with Suzanne Heathcote having stolen the coveted position.

“I’m very excited that the Killing Eve baton is being passed onto another incredible writer for season three,” said executive producer Phoebe Waller-Bridge. “We can sleep soundly knowing these characters are safe in Suzanne Heathcote’s hilariously murderous hands.”

Season three of Killing Eve will air on ABC’s iview streaming service on April 13.
