Kristen Stewart On Why Dating Robert Pattinson Became ‘Gross’

'It wasn't real life anymore …’

For years Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson were the Hollywood ‘IT’ couple, but it all came crashing down when she was photographed kissing her married Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders.

In a new interview with the New York Times, the actress gets more candid than ever about their relationship, that “momentary indiscretion” (as she put it at the time) and finding love again.

“People wanted me and Rob to be together so badly that our relationship was made into a product,” she explained. “It wasn’t real life anymore. And that was gross to me.”

She says she was always so closed off because she didn’t want her life to become a “story for entertainment value”.

“I want so badly to expose myself. I want to be understood and I want to be seen, and I want to do that in the rawest, purest, most naked way I can.”

Now in a relationship with visual-effects producer Alicia Cargile, she says that dating a woman has made her feel like she can help others by being open with her relationship.

“I would never talk about any of my relationships before, but once I started dating girls it seemed like there was an opportunity to represent something really positive,” she said.

“I still want to protect my personal life, but I don’t want to seem like I’m protecting the idea, so that does sort of feel like I owe something to people.”

But the Twilight star does admit, she still needs to strike a balance.

“How do you feel like you’re not being stolen from, yet at the same time not guard yourself to the point of depriving yourself of so much goodness in life?”
