The Full ‘Spencer’ Trailer Is Here And Kristen Stewart’s Princess Diana Is Bound To Sweep Up Awards

She sounds exactly like the late Lady Di

With the plethora of new films hitting our screens this year, there’s one that royal enthusiasts have been waiting with bated breath for. And that is Kristen Stewart‘s interpretation of Princess Diana in the Spencer biopic.

Now, the full-length trailer for the film has been released, and quite frankly, it’s giving us goosebumps.

Directed by Pablo Larraín, Spencer follows the lady princess on a three-day Christmas holiday in 1991 that saw Diana struggles with deciding if she’ll leave her husband, Prince Charles (played by Jack Farthing). As for the film’s description, it reads, “The Prince and Princess of Wales’s marriage has long since grown cold. Though rumours of affairs and a divorce abound, peace is ordained for the Christmas festivities at Sandringham estate. There’s eating and drinking, shooting, and hunting. Diana knows the game. This year, things will be a whole lot different.”

Of course, thanks to promotional photos and the first teaser trailer, fans had already seen a glimpse of Stewart in character, boasting a spectacular wardrobe and sounding eerily like Diana herself.

But in the new footage, not only do fans get to enjoy both of these, but the trailer introduces the audience to a young Prince William (Jack Nielen) and Prince Harry (Freddie Spry), showcasing the tension between Princess Diana and her in-laws in all its glory.

“You have to be able to do things you hate,” Prince Charles informs Diana in the trailer. “There has to be two of you: the real one and the one they take pictures of.” And no, the trailer doesn’t show her response to his remark, but her seemingly rage-filled facial expressions do the talking for her. Come the last scene in the trailer and Diana even asks, “Will they kill me, do you think?”

Given the film’s already glowing reviews—and a standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival—the two-minute trailer has convinced many that Stewart may be due for her first Academy Award, or at least a nomination.

As a review by The Hollywood Reporter states, “For those of us who have admired the talents of Kristen Stewart since she was not yet even a teenager, it is a joy to be able to share that the 31-year-old’s portrayal of Princess Diana in Pablo Larrain’s Spencer is truly the fulfilment of her tremendous promise and will almost certainly bring her the first Oscar nomination of her career.”

Intrigued? Mark your calendars because Spencer is set to hit cinemas on January 26, 2022.
