It’s been over five years since Lamar Odom separated from ex-wife Khloe Kardashian but the former NBA star says he still has regrets about how things turned out. In an extract from his new memoir Darkness to Light, Lamar looks back at his relationship with the 33-year-old Keeping Up With The Kardashians star.
“I wish I could have been more of a man,” Odom, tells People in an exclusive interview. “It still bothers me to this day. But regret is something we have to learn to live with.”
Khloe and Lamar officially signed divorce papers in June 2016, almost a year after the 39-year-old was hospitalised and near death following an overdose. They famously wed in under thirty days from their first meeting – their 2009 wedding was aired on KUWTK, leading to their own spin-off series on the E! Network.
Lamar previously told US Weekly that Kardashian was aware of his illicit drug abuse and numerous infidelities, “If there is one thing I regret when I was married, it was having multiple affairs with different women. That wasn’t the stand-up thing to do.”
Lamar, who says he’s now sober, told the publication that Khloe caught him with other women. “She caught me in a sleazy motel room in LA…Looking back, I’m like, ‘What are you doing?’ That was like sticking a knife in her heart and twisting it. She didn’t deserve it. She always tried to help me with the drugs,” he said. “I rejected the help.”
Following Lamar’s near-death experience, Khloe stood by Lamar during his recovery. “I want to be his support system. Tragedy does make you reassess a lot of things, but when it comes to our relationship, it’s the same, except I’m here supporting him fully,” she told People.
