This video of Angelina Jolie eating tarantulas is strangely mesmerising

According to Shiloh, they taste “like flavourless chips”

Currently in Cambodia for the premiere of her new film, First They Killed My Father, Angelina Jolie has been giving her six children a taste of the local culture. Quite literally.

As part of a BBC interview, Jolie taught Maddox, 15, Pax, 13, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10 and twins Knox and Vivienne, 8, along with reporter Yalda Hakim, how to cook and eat a saucepan-full of the gigantic spiders, crickets and scorpions.

“See the part where you have the teeth?” Jolie guides in the below video. “Take the fangs out,” she says, demonstrating with such ease you’d think she’d spent a lifetime nibbling on spider legs.

Jolie first tried tarantulas when in Cambodia filming Lara Croft: Tomb Raider in 2001. “You start with the crickets. Crickets and a beer, and then you kind of move up to the tarantulas,” she says.

She returned in 2002 to adopt her oldest son Maddox from a Cambodian orphanage in 2002.

First They Killed My Father airs on Netflix later this year.
