After Kevin Spacey responded to allegations he made sexual advances towards Star Trek: Discovery actor Anthony Rapp when he was just 14 years old (and Spacey was 26) by saying he was too drunk to remember and taking the opportunity to come out as gay, the Twitter reaction has been swift – and scathing.
Many have branded Spacey’s combined apology/public coming out as an attempt to deflect from the serious sexual harassment allegations made against him.
Nope to Kevin Spacey's statement. Nope. There's no amount of drunk or closeted that excuses or explains away assaulting a 14-year-old child.

I keep rereading this statement and getting angrier. Coming out is a beautiful part of being gay. Attaching it to this vileness is so wrong.

(Kevin Spacey beats a man to death with an accordion)

“I’m sure you’ve heard the rumors. They’re true. I am indeed an accordion player.”

Kevin Spacey has just invented something that has never existed before: a bad time to come out.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Spacey, but your application to join the gay community at this time has been denied."

In other news, Kevin Spacey didn't deny sexually assaulting Anthony Rapp when he was a 14-year-old boy. Also blamed drunkenness. Inexcusable

The classiest way to come out of the closet is as a PR smokescreen to distract people from the fact that you tried to molest a child.
