KitKat Is Changing Their Recipe, And People Are Outraged

This is the first time they've changed it since World War II.

Hold. The. Phone. Nestle have done the unthinkable and decided to change the iconic recipe of KitKats for the first time since World War II. 

The reason why? To make their sweet, chocolatey bars healthier. 

The new, ‘healthier’ recipe set to hit shelves in the UK next week boasts 10 percent less sugar. While the usual KitKat bar has 213 calories, the reformulated version will shave it off to 209 calories.

Thanks for (almost) nothing, Nestle.

Apparently the bars will taste the same according to Fiona Kendrick, chairwoman and chief executive of Nestlé UK and Ireland.

“When we announced that we were removing some of the sugar from our confectionery, the first questions that consumers asked us were ‘Are you going to make things smaller?’ and ‘Will it taste the same?’” she said.

“I’m pleased to say that these products are the same size as the ones they are replacing and taste just as good.

“Milk and cocoa has formed the basis of the KitKat recipe ever since it was introduced in 1936 so, while people might have been expecting us to add something else, this is a great example of us using our strength in research and innovation to develop a great recipe that replaces sugar with a bit more of the existing, natural ingredients that people know and love.”

But people are finding that very hard to believe, and are already voiced their outrage on Twitter…

The bar is set to cut out 1,000 tonnes of sugar and three billion calories from the UK’s diet.

No news yet on if the recipe will also be changing in Australia – more to come.
