Detectives at Scotland Yard received a tip that a gang of European traffickers snatched the toddler from her familyโ€™s holiday apartment in Portugal in 2007 after taking pictures of her.

The Home Office reportedly granted a further ยฃ95,000 (approximately $162,000) to keep the investigation going another six months.

The new lead comes nearly ten years after her disappearance.

Senior officers have reportedly admitted this is the โ€œlast throw of the diceโ€ in the investigation.

โ€œThis is an important new line of inquiry which could provide an explanation on whether Madeleine was abducted and transported away,โ€ a source tells The Sun.

โ€œIt raises hope that she could still be alive.โ€

The case will be reviewed again in April.
