Two 12-year-old boys have been charged after allegedly raping a six-year-old girl a primary school on Sydneyโs northern beaches.
The Department of Education reported the incident to police before the boys were arrested at Chatswood Police Station on Tuesday.
The ABC reports that the incident took place in early August in the toilet block of the primary school where all three children attended.
โDetectives from the State Crime Commandโs Child Abuse Squad were alerted by the Department of Education following incidents at a primary school,โ a police statement said.
One of the boys has been charged with four counts of aggravated sexual assault and two counts of sexual intercourse with a child under 10. He is expected to face court on September 22.
The second boy was charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault and sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 10 and will face court next month.
Parents at the school were made aware of the situation yesterday, however some are reportedly angry they were not told sooner.
โItโs more horrific that parents havenโt been advised. There are ways of letting parents know without telling the children,โ one parent told The Daily Telegraph. โItโs disgraceful, where do they get ideas like that? Whatโs happening at home?โ
โIโm just horrified we havenโt been told, Iโm gutted actually,โ said another. โI would have expected more from our principal.โ
