Leg Warmers Are Officially Back In Fashion – Yes, Really

What Chanel says goes

Last year, Chanel’s Métiers d’Art show paid homage to creative director Karl Lagerfeld’s adopted home of Paris, and, almost a year to the day later, Lagerfeld took the house back to his birthplace of Hamburg, Germany.

Those taking note of Lagerfeld’s recent locations don’t think it’s a coincidence, with many speculating the iconic designer took Chanel to his birthplace ahead of announcing his retirement next year.

For his homecoming, Lagerfeld enlisted It girl models Kaia Gerber and Stella Maxwell to walk the runway while muses Lily-Rose Depp and Kristen Stewart sat front and centre, alongside Australia’s Phoebe Tonkin.

As far as the fashion goes, tweed suits, baker boy hats and oversized jumpers reigned supreme, and, while the inclusion of tweed was a no-brainer, there was a runway addition we didn’t see coming: the return of leg warmers.

To open the show, Cindy Crawford’s teenage daughter Kaia stepped out in a pair of navy, knitted leg warmers and a matching jumper dress, made by Barrie in Scotland, Chanel’s wool brand.

Black and white leg warmers also graced the runway, paired with a matching skirt and jumper combo with a cardigan draped over top (while we have you, cardigans are also most definitely making a comeback).

Though we’re certainly not equipt to argue the matter with Lagerfeld, we’re going to use the rest of the Australian summer to see how this trend plays out over yonder.

Gigi, Kendall, over to you.
