If you’ve been missing the drama of office politics this year thanks to the past several months of working from home, you’re in luck. The new series, Industry, is delving into the money-making world of banking and the scandalous lives of those who seek to make it big in the corporate world. The drama has been hailed as a next-gen Skins, only with a Wolf Of Wall Street edge.
Being executive produced and co-directed by Girls’ Lena Dunham, Industry follows a group of grads trying to climb the corporate ladder in the British banking sector—but not without leaving their college partying days behind them. The official description reads, “Industry follows a group of hungry, young graduates competing for a limited number of permanent positions at Pierpoint & Co., a leading bank in London while being thrown head-first into the exhilarating world of international finance.”
With just six months to prove why they should be offered a full-time position in their departments, the five graduates turn to ruthless tactics to prove themselves. But, don’t think the series just looks to finance for its drama, with the show looking beyond office hierarchy to explore topics such as race, sexuality, class, and the all-too-familiar ‘boys club’ present in office culture.
Myha’la Herrold will star in the role of Harper Stern, a young Black woman who moves to the U.K. from New York City, working for the firm’s MD of cross-product sales Eric Tao (Ken Leung). The fellow graduates include Marisa Abela as Yasmin Kara-Hanani, Harry Lawtey as Robert Spearing, David Johnson as Gus Sackey and Nabhaan Rizwan as Hari Dhar.
