Lena Headey Predicts Cersei’s Future On Game Of Thrones

Warning: MAJOR spoilers for the Season Six finale

Seriously though. Spoilers ahead – you have been warned!

Cersei Lannister is one of the most strategic and calculated characters on the show. So while her plot to kill everyone involved in the Faith, even if it means killing the Tyrells and a large proportion of King’s Landing with wildfire, might have seemed like a bit of a shock at first, it fits in perfectly with her primary goals: to keep her children safe and maintain absolute power.

However. Fulfilling Cersei’s prophecy from Maggy the Frog that was revealed in Season 5, all of her children are now dead, after Tommen’s fateful jump out the window. So the question is… what does Cersei want?

She’s back on the Iron Throne, but she’s lost almost everyone she truly cares about – she could even lose Jamie now that she has begun to descend into madness. And this leaves her in the dangerous position of not having much to lose, yet wielding incredible power with the Mountain by her side and a crown on her head.

Lena Headey, who plays Cersei in the show, has opened up about what she thinks is next for her character. When asked if she thought Cersei would be on the Iron Throne for long in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she said: “Not a chance in hell. It’s a moment of punctuation in the madness.”

She does not fear death for her character, in fact, quite the contrary.

“I’ve always said that when it happens, as long as it’s kinda glorious and gory and it’s by the right person…” Headey says. “I think it has to be Arya or Tyrion.”

She particularly ponders Cersei’s death by Tyrion: “No one would relish her death as much as he would.”

There are even theories floating around at the moment that it could be Jaime that kills her because of her madness. Maggy the Frog’s prophecy says she will die at the hands of the valonqar, high Valyrian for ‘little brother’, so it does seem that Tyrion or Jaime could be the frontrunners.

It’s still unclear who will take the throne from Cersei, however Daenerys seems to be a likely candidate at the moment. Headey described reading the final scene of the finale.

“I got goosebumps reading, “The ships are coming.” They keep teasing us every season and I don’t know what’s going to happen because nobody tells you anything. I have to assume there’s going to be one helluva battle. Who knows? It’s such a mystery.”
