Those Kaitlynn Carter photos didn't help

When Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth announced their split, initial reports suggested there was still hope the two would reconcile and work things out. However, a week later Liam officially filed for divorce, something which is said to have come as a shock to Miley.

Now, it’s been revealed that the actor did initially want to work on the 10-year relationship, but the photos of Miley kissing Brody Jenner’s ex-wife Kaitlynn Carter on a yacht in Italy put an end to that. The images also reportedly prompted Liam’s family to step in and advise him to end the marriage for good with a source telling Us Weekly that the 29-year-old comes from a “very conservative family” and that they were “freaked out by it.”

Liam filed for divorce because Miley was “being so open about her relationship with Kaitlynn Carter,” the source said. “He thought they could work it out, but all those pictures of her and Kaitlynn ended that.”

Last week, E! reported almost the exact same thing – “Even though Miley and Liam were separated for a while before she was photographed making out on the yacht with Kaitlynn, once Liam saw those photos he decided it was time to file for divorce,” its source said. “That was it for him, seeing those photos.”

This morning, the actor posted on social media for the first time since announcing his split with Miley.

After cancelling his attendance at the premiere of Killerman last week, Liam took to Instagram to write a lengthy post about the new film, showing he’s focusing on work amid the drama.

Two weeks ago, he posted a sunset shot with the caption, “Hi all. Just a quick note to say that Miley and I have recently separated and I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward. This is a private matter and I have not made, nor will I be making, any comments to any journalists or media outlets. Any reported quotes attributed to me are false. Peace and Love.”
